There is always good food to be found when traveling, and St. Lawrence County has its share. Potsdam has an abundance of restaurants from American food to ethnic favorites such as Chinese, Italian, Mexican, and Thai. Some of the best Italian restaurants can be found in Massena, and many Canadians make the trek across the bridge for dinner. In Ogdensburg you can find restaurants along the St. Lawrence that not only serve spectacular food, but the views at sunset are breathtaking. Of course pretty much each community has a great American small town diner, with home cooked specialties and desserts. So after a long day’s hike, paddle, or round of golf, head out for a great meal at one of St. Lawrence County's many dining options.
Craft Beverages
BREWERIES | WINERIES | HARD CIDER
St. Lawrence County’s craft beverage scene is growing, bringing more locally made beer and wine, and more places to experience it. Make a tasting-room stop part of the trip and see what’s being poured across the county.
Grab a locally brewed pint at Bent Beam Brewing in Canton, In-Law Brewing in Louisville, or Gristmill Brewery in Massena. Each brings its own atmosphere to the lineup, from relaxed patios and small-town hangouts to a standout riverside setting.
Head to Bella-Brooke Vineyard in Hammond, High Peaks Winery in Winthrop, or Bregg Winery in Norfolk. Tasting rooms, vineyard settings, outdoor spaces, live music, and seasonal events make the experience about more than the wine.
You’ll find locally made hard cider, too. Canton Apples & Cider in Canton and Kaneb Orchards in Massena bring another North Country-made option to the mix.

Farmers markets can be found all across the region in our towns and villages from spring through late fall with some markets open in winter at indoor venues. You’ll find the freshest fruits and vegetables, artisanal cheeses, and locally raised meat and poultry. Maple Country
With more than 2,000 maple producers, New York ranks as the second-largest maple syrup producer in the nation and is home to the largest concentration of tappable maple trees in the United States. NYS Maple Weekends
Each spring in late March, maple producers across St. Lawrence County open their sugar shacks to visitors for New York State Maple Weekends, a statewide celebration of the sweetest season. Step inside and see how sap becomes syrup, then round out your visit with pancake breakfasts, tastings, tours, and samples straight from the source.
